Grandma's visit

Grandma came by to see us yesterday afternoon. Christian had a gift for her that he bought using his AWANA bucks. He knows she loves frogs so when he saw the stone with green and a frog sitting on it, he had to get it for her. She was able to see their new beds assembled that she and Ya-Ya (Aunt Maria) bought them. Thanks Grandma and Ya-Ya!

hard at work

Ethan and Dad have been hard at work today burning fire piles and mulching flowerbeds. Mom got to go to a used curriculum sale at Faith Community Church in The Woodlands. I got some advice from the Schultz family who we had met at the Children's Museum over Spring Break. Their son love reptiles and the mom suggested using the Apologia curriculum for science. It is Christian based which is hard to find. I got some Rod and Staff English books, Ranger Rick magazines, and some preschool workbooks.

AWANA is over :(

We concluded our semester of AWANA. Christian generously used his accumulation of points to buy Kara, Ethan, Dad, Mom, and Grandma presents. He was so thoughtful in his choosing. Ethan had tons of fun with the glitter glue Mrs. Carrie brought to finish AWANAs with a bang. We can always count on her to pull out the smocks! Kara had a great time painting with all the girls. We will miss everyone!

Day Two Home Schooling

We got to venture out today and attend my Bible study with friends in Powder Mill. I sufficiently threatened the kids to be good and they were on their best behavior. We are studying Vertically Inclined by Mary Kaspian. Very good group study. We welcomed a new member today Penny. She is a delightful woman and has such a thankful heart. I know I will learn lots from her. After coming home for lunch, we began our studies. Kara worked on singing her alphabet and cleaning her room. What a mess! Ethan is so excited to have desk in his room and loves sitting at it to do his work. He worked on the letter Dd today. Christian was perplexed today when I asked him to retell the story he read. I had him read it again out loud and then I showed him how to do it. I look forward to see him develop his story telling. Its nap time now because we have a busy evening. More pics tomorrow.

bicycle safety

Christian, the boss, decided to make sure he was within safety standards (he couldn't find his helmet so he "borrowed" Ethan's) leaving Ethan having to be resourceful.

Day One Home schooling

Well, for most today was a holiday. Not so for the Hernandez family. We decided to begin our learning journey. Ethan calls me teacher and Christian insists on raising his hand. They are cute. Kara just wants to snuggle up to her mom. Ethan practiced his handwriting by working on his name. Thanks Carrie for the worksheet. Christian is such a little sponge. He is reading Rod and Staff readers for 3rd grade. I'm having him do copy work instead of using the workbooks so I can reuse them for Ethan and Kara. He has such wonderful handwriting! I know Albert and I can't say that. Hooked on Phonics is the primary curriculum I'm using for Ethan and Kara. They both need to master their alphabet. I had them working on the Pizza, Paint and Pie puzzle from my Discovery toy collection. They were partners trying to put the floor puzzle together. I had them pose for a pic but instead of "high five" they began to whack each other. Typical. We are reading letter books from My First Steps to Reading. They love those. Now I'm working on lunch and they are having "recess" which equals swimming. I sure hope our house in Friendswood has a pool. They love to swim. Please pray for me to keep working diligently on the organizing and planning. I know God will bless and multiply my "seeds".

SNAKE!!!!

The boys were jumping on the trampoline and Albert just "happened" to be walking to the car next to it. He saw it slithering onto the concrete and WHACKED it with his flip flop! A copperhead no less! The eery part is they were camping right next to the trampoline last night in the tent! Thank you Lord for protecting them.

The Masterbath Project

Green and Centilli families you will appreciate this. Albert has been hard at work tiling the floor this week. The stairs are done and I love the color-GREEN! I bet you are all a bit shocked by that.

New Journey

I am still soaking it all in. School's out and we are about to begin the new journey the Lord has for us-home schooling. I am so thankful for all the support and information I've received in the last 3 weeks. Blessings to Love 2 Learn in Tomball for sponsoring the workshops last Saturday. Mary, Jolyn, Kristin, and Janet were so inspirational. Marilyn Rockett, a pro, was so impacting with her organizational teaching. I prayed that whoever needed her workbook in the group would win it in the drawing. I wasn't too surprised when it was ME! Wendy, a fellow journeywoman, has been so willing to share her findings with me. I know she'll do great! Please keep her health in your prayers. Love to all the Tuesday morning Bible study gang in Powder Mill. Nancy I look forward to meeting you at church. Corinne you make it look fun. We are still on for Wed. at the YMCA right? Gina you are who I want to be when I grow up! Please check out their adoption blog at http://shifletfamilyadoption.blogspot.com/. They are in Russia now getting ready to take home their beloved children Andrew and Kathlena. God is so good. Yvonne thanks for the hairbrush story. I needed that SO much today. Carrie, my little sister in Christ, I love you! Roxanne thanks for the hug and encouragement today. We will definitely keep in touch. Blessings to you and your new journey. Please pray for the Harvey Family. I just know they are suppose to buy my house. I pray that theirs sells right away but they give us enough time to finish this one and pack! I know God's timing is perfect but its my procrastination that I'm worried about. Yvonne keep me accountable! Thanks Renee for all the Abeka first grade readers. You brought those to the church that day for me. Praise Him.

AWANA award time!

After another busy semester of AWANA we celebrated with awards night. Christian completed his third year of Sparks and Ethan finished Cubbies. Kara is going on to her 2nd year in Cubbies. This is our 5th year!

Last Day at Salem

Mom shed lots of tears during our praise songs in the car on the way to school this morning. I took Christian's pic with Mrs. Kokel. Ethan's with Ms. Wasmund and Mrs. B. Kara with Mrs. Stacy and Mrs. Tawana. We love our Salem family and will miss them all dearly.
